Attendance
The Education Act states that parents have the primary responsibility for ensuring that children of compulsory school age receive a suitable education.
At Gilwern Primary School we ask that you support us in promoting good levels of attendance by ensuring your child attends school regularly and arrives on time.
Good Attendance
Good attendance is above 96% and we expect this to be the minimum level for all children at Gilwern Primary School.
Absences
Where your child is absent due to sickness and is unable to attend school, then it is your responsibilty to contact the school office to inform them by 9.30am.
Please avoid taking holidays during term time. Before requesting a holiday form, please consider the lessons your child will miss, the difficulty they will have in catching up and the effect it will have on how well they do at school. If a family holiday falls during term time a holiday form is obtainable from the office, or school website.
The importance of regular attendance
There are many good reasons for encouraging regular school attendance which has been well researched and documented. For pupils the benefits include:
- Keeping up with their school work
- Ensure they meet their expected progress
- Develop better personal and social skills
- Learn habits needed for adult life e.g. punctuality and time management
